What is in fashion for the winter? We love lookinggreat no matter the weather, expressing our individual style. Francescahas a question about what to wear - fur anyone? How do you feel aboutwearing fur?
Hey Fancesca! Congrats on the blog!
Anyway you ask about fur...(great topic too!)
In my opinion fur isn't as fasionable as people make it out to be.
In most cases they breed animals in captivity then club, euthanize, or kill them in other inhumane ways. It's almost as bad as the death penalty to humans, except we are allowed a trial, but animals have to one to stand up for them. Luckily that's where PETA comes in.
Many people can also argue with me by saying Hey Cole, don't you eat meat? Yes folks, i'm an omnivore, it's human nature, but killing for fasion isn't human or natural, it's cruel.
I remember thinking when I was little, how much I wanted a fur coat like in the magazines, until I saw 101 Dalmations, and that awful woman wanted to slaughter those poor puppies. That's when everything changed for me.
I understand that in human history we have been killing animals for years, using our adapive nature to gain advantage over wildlife fit only for certain climates. Because history is one of my stronger points, I must comment on how things have changed since the Native Americans, or the Aztecs Incas and Myans. The indigenous people killed because they had to in order to ensure their survival. Even so, when they hunted an animal every single part of that animal was put to use and every part was essencial. Now adays we kill animals or fashion, fast food (if anyone heard about the chicken torturing at KFC), and other uses that are not incredibly necesary. Personally, I like a warm coat, but is fur always the warmest and most comfortable? what about the wool in peacoats, or the feathers in those big coats, all equally, if not warmer, than fur. All solutions are also much less harmful to animals. Thanks for the rant! ;)

Hi.
I agree. I love animals and I want to be a vet. Plus fake fur is just as beautiful. Why kill animals just for fashion. I wish someone could come up with a law so that nobody would be allowed to kill animals besides for food (on a farm). Then it would be illegal and people would enjoy the animlas more. If all resources and animals get used, what will we have to survive?

Yeah fur is cool. It's a sign of high class and popularity.
I think its important to have good social standing. It lets others respect your opinion--and your authoraty. fur is just one of the ways to show off your greatness. As long as you get it from a respected dealer who cares. just make sure what you wear is in style ;)

Hey Cole@ The Caberet thanks for the congrats. anyway I think your post was really great. I eat meat to so don't feel bad. We should only kill animals for survival. I know the indians killed for fur but they had to to stay alive. Alot of kids at my school's dad's hunt for the fur but most eat it too.

Thanks Francesca for the compliment.
About what lexi said. She makes some really good points, however i don't see a law like that anywhere in our future. The truth is that many slaughter houses discard the fun and leather and suck when they butcher the animal (sorry about all the brutal and frank words, but it must be said). All of that fur could actually be recycled into blankets and coats for ppl who need to keep worm in the winter because they can't afford the finer things. That would be such a great cause.
In a way i also agree with M in how she says that fur is a sign of social standing (and i LOVE sociology a lot), but there are plenty of OTHER ways to show you are of a certain standing, sich as silk, lace, wool, or llama's wool, which are all in their own way expensive. Well anyway i have a HUGE chem test tomorrow and a thousand deadlines this week. Pleasent chatting guys!!!
Love Always,

Great job, Francesca! I was watching CNN this morning and the President and Ms. Bush were getting off a plane to meeting the Russian president, whose wife was wearing a massive fur coat. Is it cultural?

fur no way if people want fur so bad they can grow it themeselves and let someone tear their skin off i dont care if its in fashion killing inoscent animals is so totaly W-R-O-N-G wrong that fur once belonged to a living breathing being so people shouldnt just kill a helpless creature for there own luxuries i once ripped a rabbit fur hat off my friend and threw it in the street like i said before GO GROW YOUR OWN DANG FUR IF U WANT IT SO BAD TO KILL A LIVING CREATURE U PATHETIC SICK PEOPLE...( sorry this comment is so strong but these are my true feelings)...

Dear Francesca,
on the ideas about stopping fur to be sold you could get a whole bunch of people in your city to sign a petition and you can even tell friends in other states to start a petition as well but you would need ALOT o0f people to sign it and if you get enough names you can send a copy of the petition to your govener it works for some things but not all although its worth a try but you need to remeber to post copies of the petition in grocery stores and OUTSIDE of places that sell fur it so funny when you see peoples reaction well good luck withj that and ill be roottin for u to stop fur from being sold
sincerly, ME; a helping hand ;D

Hey guys!
hehe this was really a good topic to talk about.
If anyone's interested in more info about animal rights try PETA, PETA2, or if you want to talk more about this you can try Speakout.com.
Thanks again Francesca! This was awesome ;)

hey Francesca! great topic and sorry it took me so long to send this to you. I think that people are wrong to kill animals... for fashon! I love animals and even though fur is a big fashon statement this year, I think you could make a bigger statement if you say no to wearing it. Fake fur is fine but real fur is cruel. A few years ago I got poncho that was really cute and furry from my friend. When I looked at the tag, it said it was made out of rabbit fur. It was a bunny!!! Even though it was a cute poncho, I said I would never wear it. My friend said she was sorry and didn't relize at the time that it was real fur. Killing animals is really mean, espeially since people are wanting more animals that are there are not many left of and other animals are also becoming less and less. I think that we should stop these people and let out planet have many more animals!

i think fur i bad, because its not right to take the skin that god gave to animals. it wouldnt be very nice 4 someone to take your skin and wear it!

Hey Francesca! Really great topic! I agree with all of you in that killing animals strickly to make a coat is wrong. And some of the stuff they make out of it is despicable! Sometimes they die it neon pink and other colors, so it doesn't even look like the real thing! And some of the jackets that are made out of real fur are ugly! Why would you kill something to create an ugly piece of clothing.
another thought just hit me. We all wear shoes, right? Well, those shoes are made out of leather, and I like leather shoes. I guess I'm ultimately undecided about the animals vs fashion conflict.
Great topi Francesca, it makes you think. Sorry it took me so long to post.

Hey everyone, Hope your break is going well.
I agree with everyone so far, Killing animals=aweful! ahh! As it get colder i see more and more fur, which has got me thinking about your topic. I realized that many people who wear fur has had it passed down from generation to generation, so techniqually i can't argue with family heirlooms, can you?
Anyways, Not all shoes are made out of leather though, because leather is becomming more expensive than synthetic materials.
Fancesca: Again, i LOVE this topic, i'm still thinking about it everytime i step on the Port Athority bus to go to school. There is always atleast 1 person with fur. Its really turing into something huge isn't it?

I think wearing fur is something people do to look good but I think that people should wear fur if it is nessisary not for the fashion. I personally love fur!! (the fake kind that is)
Posted by: Jennifer | January 24, 2007 at 07:21 PM
Real fur always creeps me out when I see people wear it, so I personally can't see why anyone would even want to if they weren't alone in the snowy wilds freezing to death.
And it is just cruel to buy fur. as Michaela said, sometimes you want to ask if they would give up their own skins for fashion.
As was pointed out by Cole, there are much warmer and in my opinion nicer looking alternatives out there.

I think that woman who wear fur don't necisarilly like it. (sorry about the bad spelling) They just want to be reconized as the rich woman who wears fur. I agree with what you other girls said. Fake fur looks just as nice!! SAVE THOSE CUTE LITTLE ANIMALS!!!!!!!
Posted by: Julie | February 05, 2007 at 08:14 PM
This may seem rather random, but:
save the
CHINCHILLAS!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: anna | February 19, 2007 at 10:48 PM
Fur sucks. A winter trend this year is layering tshirts and tank tops (brrr.)
Posted by: Katie | March 18, 2007 at 12:11 PM
I totally agree with anna: save the chinchillas!!! Did you know that the fur in the new abercrombie sweatshirt hoods is real fur! It is made out of some sort of dog from alaska! poor doggies!!!!
Posted by: Alex :) | March 19, 2007 at 06:58 PM
i dont see why it is such a big deal. Its not a really bad thing to have 1 fur coat. more is pushing it. there is also nothing wrong with wanting to look rich. But no one cares or notices if your fur is fake. So just buy whatever coat id the best LOOKING. not by what its made of.

I love a fur jacket. period.
